In 2017, Microsoft changed MS Office’s name to Microsoft 365. However, over the past few years, M365 has become more than a set of apps, but a productivity suite. Now, they are creating a new experience to help users get the most of it. In the becoming months, Office.com, the Office mobile app, and the Office app for Windows will become the Microsoft 365 app; not only that, but it will have a completely new image. New icon, new look, and new features.
The deep orange, square-shaped ‘’O’’ for Office will disappear to be replaced with a blue and purple folded Möbius strip. This represents the endless hours of a work-from-home corporate drone.
What’s new in the Microsoft 365 app?
- New types of content creation and templates
- New Apps module to discover, launch and pin the tools you use the most
- Welcome Badging to see your subscription status and track storage usage
- My Content, a central location for all the content created and shared by you
- Feed with relevant content based on who you work with and what you work on
- Tagging to organize your content with custom tags
When will these changes start?
Changes will begin to roll out for Office.com in November 2022. On the other hand, changes for the Office app on Windows and mobile will start rolling out in January 2023.
There will also be no changes to Office 365 subscription plans.
How will these changes affect my subscriptions?
Your existing account, profile, subscription, or files will have no impact because of these changes. The app will update automatically, so look out for the new logo, look, and features starting November 2022.
Does this mean Office is entirely going away?
No. Users will continue to get access to apps like Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook as part of their Microsoft 365 subscription. We will also continue to offer one-time purchases for these apps via Office 2021 and Office LTSC plans.
