Microsoft Teams and data residency
Teams has become an indispensable tool to communicate, collaborate, and stay on top of the hybrid work world. Having over 270 million monthly active users, Microsoft decided to include Microsoft Teams to the customer data residency commitments in their Product Terms. This covers commercial and public sector customers, in their 15 local datacenter regions.
Microsoft 365 Advanced Data Residency add-on
This add-on came out in November 2022, and it is designed to give regulated commercial and public sector Microsoft 365 customers additional assurances to help with their compliance with data residency laws, regulations, and industry standards.
Advanced Data Residency will provide customers (if eligible) with premium services such as, data storage at rest commitments for expanded workloads including:
- Exchange Online Protection
- Microsoft Defender for Office Plan 1
- Office for the Web
- Viva Connections
- Viva Topics
- Components of the Microsoft Purview Suite
